Hall & Hart Low Emissions Road Map

As the effects of climate change become more apparent, it's more important than ever for the construction industry to play its part in reducing emissions and limiting its impact on the environment.

At Hall & Hart, we believe that every product or service we provide can result in positive climate action, by first measuring the impact, then reducing negative emissions where possible and offsetting unavoidable emissions against verified climate projects.

In alignment with our commitments and after following the successful verification of our baseline emissions by Carbonhalo, our team has had the opportunity to digest this information and develop a reduction plan and road map. This roadmap outlines our commitments to effectively minimise our business emissions and contribute to environmental sustainability.

To demonstrate our commitment, we will:

    1. Seek to integrate sustainable design practices into all of our projects, with the goal of reducing energy consumption, waste, and greenhouse gas emissions, this will be done by:
    • Measuring and understanding the embodied carbon for products used within our designs by Jan 24.
    • Designing homes to 7-Star & above by August 2023
    • Upgrading our standards by October 2023 to include Solar, EV charging and increased insulation
    • Integrate the Hall & Hart BASIX Design principles into our design process by August 2023
    • Implement a gyprock recycling program for all sites from September 2023
    1. Recommend to our clients materials and products where practical that are low-carbon, renewable, and recyclable, and that have been sourced and manufactured in an environmentally responsible manner.
    • Provide availability of low-carbon cement to customers by June 2024
    • Trial and review alternatives to Waffle Pods by December 2024
    • Implement internal review process for low carbon materials by Jan 2024
    1. Partner with suppliers and contractors who share our commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction, by encouraging our suppliers to measure their own emissions. Target 10 of our suppliers/contractors by the end of 2024

    2. Monitor and track our carbon emissions and energy use on an annual basis and set targets for continuous improvement.

    3. Educate and engage our employees through training, and involving them in our decision-making process on sustainable initiatives and priorities.

Our dedication to minimising our carbon footprint aligns with our commitment to contribute to Australia's 2030 reduction targets. We acknowledge the imperative of addressing climate change, with the construction industry playing a vital role in this endeavour.

Our initiatives are prioritised to be aligned with Sustainable Development Goals:

    Affordable and Clean Energy:

We strive to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy sources by assessing energy efficiency in new home designs and including solar & EV charging in our standards.

    Sustainable Cities and Communities:

We aim to foster inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable urban environments by ensuring that all new homes exceed a NaTHERS 7 Star rating by elevating insulation standards for enhanced energy efficiency.

As we continue on our decarbonisation journey, we will continue to update our progress. If you would like to see how we are progressing on our journey you can read about our commitments, actions, and some climate metrics on our business impact page.
